POST PARTUM DEPRESSION

POST PARTUM DEPRESSION

Postpartum  depression

Blessings Love,

You may have heard of the " baby blues",  a pretty common experience after childbirth.

But when the feeling of sadness, loneliness, anxiety, restlessness e.t.c have gone beyond a few weeks… we have to look beyond just "baby blues".

Postpartum depression is a subject that isn't receiving as much attention as it should. It's a reality that many mothers have to live with. They find themselves unable to receive the help they need or find it difficult to properly explain what exactly is going on in their mind.

  • Mood swings

  • Loss of appetite

  • Difficulty concentrating

  • Insomnia

  • Sadness e.t.c

All the above can be considered as symptoms of baby blues that disappear in a matter of weeks.

But then we have postpartum depression.

It's symptoms include:

  • Consistent state of deep sadness

  • Frequent crying

  • Anxiety

  • Irritability

  • Loss of appetite

  • Difficulty sleeping

  • Not deriving joy from things you would usually enjoy

  • Sleeping more than you usually would

  • Consistent feelings of guilt

  • Consistent feelings of worthlessness

  • Not finding that "connection" with your baby.

  • Having no interest in your baby

  • Lack of motivation to keep on living.

As you can see there are so many symptoms of postpartum depression and symptoms vary among individuals.

One important factor to note is that seeking help; professional help after child birth does not make you weak or "unmotherly". You deserve and need all the care you can get to live your best life and be the best mother you can be for your child.

Steps to help fight postpartum depression

  • Talk to someone- You're not an island, don't let the thoughts in your head convince you otherwise. You need all the love and care you can get. Don't let your thoughts convince you that you're alone. Speak to a loved one who you know would listen and don't isolate yourself.

  • Counseling- therapy is a big step towards healing. A professional would listen and help you get out of your present situation.

  • Holistic natural remedies- our Postpartum Tea has lots of great mood boosting properties such as Oatstraw; because it is so nutrient dense you are not feeling so depleted which is a leading cause of depression. Hibiscus is another fun one we put in this nourishing blend to bring love to the heart and added bonus- breast milk production

Postpartum depression doesn't make you "unmotherly", weak or a bad person in any way. Don't be ashamed to seek out the help you need.

Contact a therapist who would listen and give you all the help you need.
